uMobix Review 2024: Is This Spy App Worth Your Investment?

uMobix Review 2024: Is This Spy App Worth Your Investment?

uMobix is touted as one of the ‘best’ phone monitoring apps in the world. This is because it has a wealth of features, and it is virtually undetectable once it is running on somebody’s phone. But is it good, or has marketing managed to help uMobix get catapulted to almost global fame?

In this brutally honest uMobix review, we’ll take a deep dive into uMobix and what it brings to the table. We’ll discuss the features, the pros, and the cons. We’ll even give you an alternative. Hopefully, by the end of this uMobix review, you’ll have a decent idea of whether this spy app is worth your investment or whether you might want to consider one of the alternatives.

What is uMobix?

uMobix is marketed as a phone monitoring app for parents. It can do the following:

  • See call and text messaging history.
  • Monitor all the popular social media apps so you can see what a person is seeing on social media (and what they interact with).
  • GPS location tracker.
  • Ability to control a user’s device. This includes removing apps, limiting some functions on the phone, etc.
  • Access the person’s camera and microphone. You’ll know exactly what the child is doing at all times.
  • View deleted information on the device.

It is quite a hefty feature set, although this isn’t too different from what other phone monitoring apps offer, bar a couple of differences. Some of these features are only available on Android, for example, the ability to control the apps being used. The same with the keylogger. That is only available on Android due to how Apple devices work. So, don’t expect the full feature set if you’re monitoring an Apple device.

Firstly, uMobix gives a level of control over the target user’s device that other monitoring apps do not offer. For example, the ability to look at the person’s active camera and microphone. This is, arguably, a breach of privacy and some may suggest that it goes beyond standard ‘safety’ monitoring there. Still, it is a feature, albeit one that probably would never be used for its intended purpose.

Secondly, uMobix is undetectable…almost. Most other phone monitoring apps can be seen on the device. This is to let the person know they are being monitored. However, you can’t see uMobix running, unless you know what to look for. The app is so ridiculously well hidden that even those with a decent technological mind will sometimes miss that it is installed.

We do want to point out that uMobix is only ever marketed as an app for tracking children. It is never marketed as an app for general ‘’spying’ on whoever you want. We do, however, need to point out that it is much more ‘sophisticated’ than your typical monitoring app.

How Does uMobix Work?

uMobix is a real-time phone monitoring system. This means that if the target does anything with their phone, the person controlling the uMobix account will know exactly what has been done. The data will be transmitted to an online dashboard so the person monitoring can see the information whenever they want. This data will be stored on the online dashboard for a while, although the length of time the data stays there will depend on the uMobix plan the person has subscribed to.

The person monitoring will have access to all the features through the dashboard, including controls over the other person’s device.

How uMobix works is pretty simple – the app is installed, and permissions are shared. Quite hefty permissions, in fact. This gives uMobix the ‘right’ to take that information and transmit it elsewhere. If you already have a cellphone, that’s probably happening to you now already e.g. Google Maps is tracking GPS location, social media is tracking your browsing activity, and your web history is saved. This is just collating that information a little.

On the iPhone, the process is slightly different. uMobix keeps tabs on data backups and feeds the information from this to the dashboard. It does mean more limited functionality, but the information is still good for monitoring purposes.

How Much Does uMobix Cost?

uMobix used to have quite a complicated subscription package system, but now they have one subscription plan. This subscription plan includes all the features. You can then purchase for a certain amount of use (measured in months). The more months you purchase at once, the cheaper everything is:

  • 1 month is $49.99.
  • 3 months works out at $29.99 per month.
  • 12 months works out at $12.49 per month.

This means that if you want real bang for your buck, you’ll need to get the 12-month plan. It just isn’t worth buying any of the other options. It is too expensive, and uMobix is one of the most expensive monitoring services out there.

uMobix Customer Reviews

Customer reviews praise uMobix for the ease of use of their online dashboard and the extent of the monitoring options. People constantly praise just how neatly everything is laid out and the wealth of data that you can see.

Negative reviews seem to focus on the whole ‘spying’ part of uMobix. A lot of people have ended up using uMobix to do some rather dastardly things. This means not monitoring their children but spouses, family members, or even their employees. People don’t like how hard it is to detect uMobix running.

Other negative reviews comment on the pricing of the system. They say it is too expensive unless you commit to a year, which is a hefty outlay since there is no demo of the software.

How to Install uMobix on Android Devices

Installing uMobix on an Android device is easy:

  1. Create your uMobix account. You’ll need an active subscription plan.
  2. Find the device you want to monitor and head to the uMobix website on that device.
  3. Login to your account.
  4. Follow the instructions to download and install the app.
  5. Once the app is installed, open it and log in to the uMobix app.
  6. Follow the instructions and grant all permissions.
  7. You can now see all monitoring data on your own device.

If data is not transmitted properly, it may mean the GPS is off on the device, it does not have an internet connection, or the relevant permissions were not given.

How to Install uMobix on iPhone Devices

Installing uMobix on an iPhone is a bit simpler since you won’t need to access the iPhone. There’s nothing to download. However, you will need their iCloud login details. This is how it works:

  1. Go to the uMobix website.
  2. Log in to an account with an active subscription.
  3. Find the ‘Add Device’ link.
  4. Add an iPhone.
  5. Log in to the iCloud account belonging to the device you wish to monitor.
  6. Wait for the information to start rolling in. It should take about 12-24 hours.

It is worth noting that uMobix will only work on iPhone devices running iOS 10 or later.

How to Uninstall uMobix

Uninstalling uMobix can be tricky since the whole idea is that it is meant to be undetectable. However, it can be done.

For Apple devices, you can go to www.appleid.apple.com and unlink your Apple ID account. The person monitoring should then remove the data from the dashboard (although, it is only held for a maximum of 120 days anyway).

For Android, the process is a bit more involved:

  1. Open ‘Settings’.
  2. Select ‘Apps & Permissions’
  3. Select ‘App Manager’
  4. Find Google Play Services.
  5. Select ‘Permissions’.
  6. Turn off all permissions.
  7. Head to the uMobix website and unlink the device. This will delete all data.

You can also find various apps to do the same on the Google Play store. Not all of them will detect uMobix, though.

How to Detect uMobix

It is exceedingly difficult to detect that uMobix is running. This is because the app runs under a false name (something that looks very similar to an app you would expect to be running on a device e.g. ‘Settings’), and it runs in the background. There’ll be little to no impact on system resources.

uMobix is impossible to detect on the iPhone, and the only time you’ll know it is running is if somebody tells you they’re tracking you. You can also see linked accounts to your iCloud by heading to www.appleid.apple.com.

On Android, uMobix requires an app download. This will add an extra app to the device, but it may be tough to spot which one is uMobix. However, if you notice an app that you didn’t install, there’s a good chance it may be a spy app like uMobix.

How to Use uMobix For Free

Unfortunately, it is not easy to use uMobix for free. This is because there is no trial period. There is an online demo that lets you see how the dashboard works, but this is sample data. You can’t test it on your own devices.

uMobix does have a 14-day refund period. It is not a ‘money back guarantee’, though. In fact, uMobix explicitly forbids giving refunds if you don’t like the product. So, once you’re committed, you’re committed. It is annoying.

Is uMobix Worth the Investment?

There’s no denying that uMobix is a solid monitoring solution, if somewhat expensive. It is one of the more comprehensive mobile monitoring solutions out there, but the fact it is ‘undetectable’ does throw up some ethical issues. uMobix will monitor what you want, but it may show that a person cannot trust you, unless you tell them that they’re being monitored, of course.

Most people may want to look into Family Orbit instead, which leads us neatly onto the final part of this page.

Family Orbit vs uMobix: A Comprehensive Comparison

One of the major competitors to uMobix is Family Orbit, and we figured we couldn’t possibly give a comprehensive uMobix review in 2024 without mentioning Family Orbit. This way, parents can make an informed decision about the product that they use.

Here, we’ll compare Family Orbit vs uMobix and let you know what each brings to the table, both on the similarities and on the differences front.

Features

There isn’t a huge amount of difference between the two on the feature front.

Both Family Orbit and uMobix offer comprehensive monitoring. This includes GPS tracking, web history tracking, tracking apps, tracking calls and text messages, etc. Family Orbit also allows geofencing (you’ll know if the person you’re monitoring leaves a certain area).

uMobix does offer similar features. They do offer slightly better social media monitoring (as they keep tabs on the most popular apps), and a keylogger, which tracks all the buttons pressed on the phone. You can also control the camera and microphone from a distance. However, most people find these ‘additional’ features to be overkill for a simple child monitoring solution.

Ease of Use

Family Orbit is the easiest of the two systems to use. It is a much more intuitive control panel, and even if you don’t have a great deal of technical knowledge, it shouldn’t be too difficult to navigate around the app.

uMobix is easy to set up, and basic monitoring should be easy. However, once you start to dive into the more advanced features, you’ll need a lot of technical know-how, otherwise you won’t have a clue what is going on.

Compatibility

Family Orbit is compatible with both Android and iOS devices.

uMobix supports Android and iPhones, but the iPhones should be running iOS 10 or later.

Most people shouldn’t have any difficulty running these monitoring tools.

Pricing

Both Family Orbit and uMobix offer flexible pricing plans. For both products, the longer the subscription plan, the cheaper the price is per month.

Family Orbit is significantly cheaper than uMobix, though. The price for a year is around 50% of the uMobix price. This makes it considerably cheaper to monitor your family members.

It is also worth noting that uMobix offers multiple subscription plans, each with slightly different features (mostly related to data storage and customer support), with the more expensive plans giving you ‘more’, but also being much more expensive. Family Orbit doesn’t do this. It is just one price, with no messing around with the various subscription levels.

Family Orbit offers a 7-day free trial, but uMobix does not. It offers a demo dashboard for you to see how it works, but if you want to test the features ‘for real’ then you’ll need to pay cash. Although, there is a money-back guarantee (it can be somewhat difficult to claim your money back, though).

Monitoring Capabilities

Family Orbit offers your typical real-time location tracking, blocking of certain apps, view text messages, call logs, etc. You can also track videos and photos on the phone. Basically, lots of standard monitoring to make sure that nothing untoward happens.

uMobix has a more advanced feature set. It offers the same as Family Orbit, but can also allow remote camera access, recording of microphones, and keyword alerts if certain words are said on the phone. Some would argue that this feature set could be a breach of privacy. After all, should somebody really have remote access to a microphone or camera? That goes beyond standard monitoring.

Stealth and Security

Family Orbit offers privacy and security for users and encrypts all data. While monitoring is discreet, Family Orbit is not invisible. If Family Orbit is installed, a person knows they are being monitored. This can be a good thing. Most children understand that their behavior should be monitored on these platforms, and it is good to be as transparent as possible about it.

uMobix, on the other hand, works slightly differently.  It is designed to be discreet and, unless a person knows what they’re looking for, there is no chance they’ll know they are being monitored. Some would argue that this is a breach of privacy, and we agree. If you’re monitoring somebody, even your child, they should know you’re monitoring them. It’s only fair. It also means that uMobix can be used for nefarious purposes, and we disagree with that.

Customer Support

This is a key differentiator between the two products. Both Family Orbit and uMobix are great products, which means that it is unlikely that you’ll run into any issues with either. However, you’ll still want there to be good customer support.

Family Orbit ‘wins’ out here. This is because they have a comprehensive customer support team who are always there to answer any questions that you may have. They are very responsive too, which is nice. It means problems get solved quickly.

uMobix does have a customer support team, but things work a little differently there. Some people have noted that those committed to the uMobix plan for longer periods are more likely to receive priority support. This means those subscribed for a year will get faster support than those subscribed for a month.

Conclusion

Both Family Orbit and uMobix offer a good monitoring solution for parents. The feature set between the two is different, however. There’s also a massive difference in terms of pricing. Choosing the right product for you will depend on your budget and exactly what you wish to monitor. For most purposes, Family Orbit is perfect. Rarely, you would ever need the full features that uMobix provides.
