She wanted an escape from the horrible children at school, but her mom refused. The bullying continued at home through social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ashlynn was called \u201cfat\u201d and \u201cugly\u201d at firs,t and then it turned into people calling her a \u201cslut\u201d long before she even understood the meaning of the word. When she had her hair cut because she wanted to feel good about herself, the name-calling changed to \u201cpretty boy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This isn\u2019t just a story of cyberbullying, but the ending. Ashlynn\u2019s sister was the one to find her hanging in her closet by a scarf. The horror and devastation that would have left her sister is immense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/rchjS8nnOFY\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Megan Meier<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This horror story is a case of child depression made worse because of cyberbullying. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meganmeierfoundation.org\/megans-story\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Megan Meier<\/a> had suffered from severe depression since the age of eight and was already taking antipsychotics and antidepressants. While they helped slightly, she still suffered from her mental illnesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A female neighbor set up a MySpace account and pretended to be a male to tease Megan. At first, Megan found herself attached to this \u201cJosh Evans,\u201d but \u201che\u201d later turned on her and started discussing some rumors \u201che\u2019d\u201d heard. At first, it all started privat,e but then he started sharing their private messages and went public with a declaration that the world would be better without her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Megan, already susceptible to depression, believed that comment. After telling him that \u201cyou\u2019re the kind of boy a girl would kill herself over,\u201d she took her own life in her bedroom. She was just 13 years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Hailee Lamberth<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Another <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courthousenews.com\/parents-blame-bullying-for-daughters-suicide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">13-year-old<\/a> took her life due to cyberbullying. She\u2019s suffered from epilepsy, and her classmates taunted her for that. This in-school bullying continued through online platforms and forums. They\u2019d often tell her to kill herself because of her condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At one point, a classmate left her a voicemail saying, \u201cI hope you died.\u201d Hailee couldn\u2019t take the bullying anymore and killed herself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Kenneth Weishuhn<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s not only girls who suffer from cyberbullying. While most horror stories involve girls, there are many young boys who have to deal with the torment and horrible words. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/kenneth-weishuhn-dead-antigay-bullying_n_1431106\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kenneth Weishuhn<\/a> was one of those boys who was bullied because of his sexual orientation. Being gay is hard as a teen without the bullying, but it\u2019s worse when your classmates create an anti-gay Facebook group and make death threats over the phone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This wasn\u2019t just from enemies or people he barely knew. After he \u201ccame out,\u201d his own friends joined in tormenting him ,or they would play ignorance and never step up for their friend. Kenneth was continually harassed in school and online, and eventually killed himself. He was just 14 years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Angel Green<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Another 14-year-old took her own life. <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.indianapolis.iu.edu\/index.php\/inlawrev\/article\/view\/18396\/18493\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Angel Green<\/a> had spent years being mocked and called names. Her classmates claimed she was a \u201cwhore\u201d and a \u201cslut.\u201d She\u2019d already struggled growing up, as her father had hit her and had been jailed for abuse. After her classmates learned about that, they used it as more ammunition both at school and online.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/www.familyorbit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/cyberbullying-horror-stories.jpg\" alt=\"Cyberbullying Horror Stories\" class=\"wp-image-742\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.familyorbit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/cyberbullying-horror-stories.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.familyorbit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/cyberbullying-horror-stories-300x188.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.familyorbit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/cyberbullying-horror-stories-768x480.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>While many will do it in their own home, Angel opted for a tree at the school bus stop to make sure her bullies saw her body. She also left a note at home to make sure everyone knew why she\u2019d taken her own life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>David Molak<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.davidslegacy.org\/davids-story\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">David Molak<\/a> had a good-looking girlfriend and was a nice boy. That didn\u2019t stop him from becoming the target of a cyberbullying campaign. Bullies at school would keep sending him abusive and hurtful messages, leading to him suffering from severe depression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At first, David loved to work out and was the life of the party. Everything changed after the torment took hold of his mental health. He lost enthusiasm and interest in anything. When he was 16 years old, he hung himself in his backyard to avoid the bullying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Amanda Todd<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The final story is that of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/culture\/culture-desk\/the-story-of-amanda-todd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Amanda Todd<\/a>, who had been approached online by a male stranger when she was in 7th grade. He\u2019d convinced her to flash her breasts while on a webcam. That one instance led to a succession of cyberbullying and the threat of exposure. He contacted her on Facebook to get her to take part in a live sex show on camera. If she didn\u2019t, he\u2019d share the photo of her breasts with her friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Amanda refused to give in, the stranger shared the photo online for the world to see. Soon enough, bullies contacted Amanda. Despite moving to another city, she couldn\u2019t escape the cyberbullying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She initially tried to kill herself by drinking bleach, but she was saved. Her second attempt was successful, but she did leave a video to tell the full story of what led to this point. She was just 15 years old at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Cyberbullying happens in many forms. It can start in school and continue online, meaning children have no escape. In other cases, the bullying originates from strangers online and becomes relentless. Whether children have a history of depression or not, cyberbullying takes its toll. There\u2019s no escape, and teens struggle with coping. Even with friends, they find it hard to deal with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These horror stories show how cyberbullying affects teens. It\u2019s very real and very dangerous.
